316/316H/316L is one of the most common stainless steel on the market. It is an austenitic grade with the addtional of 2-3% molybdenum wich futher improves corrosion resistance. It is often referred to as a marine grade stainless steel because of its effective resistance to chloride corrossion in comparison to other stainelss steel grade.
The material has superior welding and forming qualities,grade 316 will require post-weld annealing to promote max. corrosion resistance, though this is not necessa if type 316L is used.

316/316L/316H Stainless Steel Pipe and Tubes Corrosion Resistance
Excellent in a wide range of atmospheric environments and many corrosive media. Subject to pitting and crevice corrosion in warm chloride environments, and to stress corrosion cracking above about 60 Deg-C. Considered resistant to potable water with up to about 1000mg/L chlorides at ambient temperatures, reducing to about 500mg/L at 60 Deg-C.
316/316L/316H Stainless Steel Pipe and Tubes Heat Treatment
Solution Treatment (Annealing) Heat to 1010-1120 Deg-C and cool rapidly. These grades cannot be hardened by thermal treatment.
